As the year draws to a close, we often take a minute to reflect on what made the year remarkable. Today, Apple acknowledged 16 of the 3.59 billion applications on its App Store that have made a significant contribution to Apple’s ecosystem.
Like Apple’s objective, the 2022 awardees want to redefine common behaviours.
Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, said that this year’s App Store Award winners redefined our experiences with applications that offered unique, intelligent, and real viewpoints.
The sixteen highlighted applications vary from the well-known BeReal, which encourages users to embrace spontaneity in a highly calculated social media environment, to the health app Gentle Streak, which reminds us that recuperation is an integral part of the fitness path.
Cook praised the honoured developers, noting that they “exemplify how applications and games benefit our communities and lives.”

iPhone App of the Year
BeReal from BeReal
BeReal caught the social media world this year with over 56 million downloads and counting. BeReal, a social networking application that encourages users to abandon premeditated postures and captions, reminds you at a different time each day to upload whatever you’re doing. The app’s purpose and interface are straightforward. Only allowing for two-box shots, one from the front camera and one from the rear, there is no place for photo dumps or endless photo shootings in which you may appear somewhat better.
While the app was first released in 2020, it took until this year to become more than a social media platform but a moment shared by smartphone users. Consequently, it is not surprising that BeReal was named the greatest iPhone app of 2022.
