How to activate Gmail capabilities for quick event creation in Google Calendar

You can utilize Smart Features to have Gmail add events to your calendar automatically, as shown by Jack Wallen.

Do you rely on Gmail and Google Calendar? Do you frequently get event notifications at your Gmail address, such as details on bookings, flights, and ticketed events like movies and concerts?

When those emails arrive, you may configure the Gmail app to add events to your calendar automatically.

You may do this not only for the Google Calendar app on mobile devices but also for the web-based version of the app.

And I’ll demonstrate how to accomplish it for you.

How to activate Smart Features and display events from Gmail

Requirements

A Google account and the Gmail app downloaded to your mobile device are the only requirements for this to function. This function is compatible with both Android and iOS, but I’ll be showing it off on a Pixel 6 Pro running Android 13.

So let’s move on to the setup.

Activating Smart Features

1. Access Gmail.

Go to Gmail and sign in to your Google account using your preferred desktop web browser as your first step.

2. Make Smart Features Active

In the upper right corner of the window, select the Gear symbol. Click See All Settings if requested. Scroll down about halfway in the ensuing window until you find the entry for Smart Features and Personalization. To make that feature active, tick the box next to it.

You’re done using Gmail on the web when you close the Settings window.

3. Access Gmail on your phone.

Open the Gmail app on your smartphone, then select the menu option by tapping the three horizontal lines in the upper-left corner of the window.

4. Launch the Settings window for Gmail.

Scroll to the bottom of the sidebar when it appears and select Settings. Tap Events from Gmail on the next page that appears.

5. Enable Gmail Events

Toggle the “Show events from Gmail” ON/OFF slider until it is set to ON. You’ll notice a pop-up alerting you that events generated from your email will be shown. To activate the function, tap OK.

With these features turned on, each email you receive in your Gmail account that has information about an event ought to trigger the automatic addition of that event to your Google Calendar.

You may always go back and disable it if you discover that it has a significant negative influence on your schedule. But the functionality might be really useful if you enjoy the ease that this automation delivers. Several events that were conveyed to me via Gmail in the past have slipped my mind. That is no longer the case when this feature is turned on. Additionally, I can manually remove any events that Gmail automatically adds to my calendar that I do not want there. The minor annoyance that comes with the ease of automation is definitely worth that trade-off.
